On February 11, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) School Business, leveraging its Greater Bay Area alumni series, conducted an interview with Lin Peidong, founder of JiaDa Cloud Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. After completing his EMBA (Chinese) program at CUHK Business School in 2020, Lin Peidong chose Shenzhen as the starting point for his entrepreneurial journey, driven by the mission of “keeping the world safe from fires.” He established JiaDa Cloud and has since been committed to driving innovation and development in the smart fire safety sector, safeguarding global security.

JiaDa Cloud primarily focuses on developing smart fire safety devices, such as smoke detection systems, carbon monoxide detectors, and gas leak alarms. These devices, once detecting anomalies in the air of buildings, transmit alerts to the cloud platform via NB-IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things) combined with 4G/5G wireless networks. They then actively send alarms to users, who can notify fire departments accordingly.

Lin Peidong noted that this smart technology has vast potential in Mainland China, especially in addressing the challenges of retrofitting and upgrading old buildings in cities. Smart fire safety devices offer simple installation without the need for extensive wiring and construction costs, and are priced at only one-fifth to one-sixth of traditional fire safety products. Additionally, the system proactively reminds users when devices need to be updated. By empowering the fire safety industry with intelligent technology, JiaDa Cloud provides a higher level of security assurance. Over the past few years, the company's team has grown from two to over thirty members, thanks to Shenzhen's strong appeal to technical talents and the supportive policies for Hong Kong and Macao youth entrepreneurs by the Shenzhen municipal government.

During the interview, Lin Peidong mentioned that CUHK Business School has been his “bridge” to Mainland China. To fill the gaps in his knowledge, he enrolled in the EMBA (Chinese) program at CUHK Business School and later pursued a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program. As the courses were held in different cities in Mainland China, he gained insights into the diverse market needs of the region. Through continuous research and exploration of business issues, he was inspired to make more valuable contributions to the industry. Currently, the company's headquarters is located at the CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute.

Looking ahead, Lin Peidong believes that driving smart transformation is key to keeping pace with the new wave of the times. He aspires to make JiaDa Cloud one of the top three fire safety brands in China within the next twenty years, breaking the monopoly of international brands.
